SJV Appoints Vice-Rector

Saint John Vianney College Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Fr. Jim Olofson, S.T.L., to the position of Vice-Rector.

Fr. Olofson is a priest of the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois and began his seminary formation here at St. John Vianney in 2010. After SJV, he attended Mundelein Seminary and was ordained a priest in 2018. He served at St. Dominic in Bolingbrook and St. John the Baptist in Winfield where he regularly worked with the Hispanic community and in the parish schools. In 2021, he was sent to Rome to complete a Licentiate Degree in Spiritual Theology at the Angelicum. In 2022, Fr. Olofson began to work with the SJV seminarians studying abroad in Rome at the Irish College. He returned to SJV’s St. Paul campus in 2023 as formation advisor and spiritual director.

“I am grateful to Fr. Kelly for this new appointment,” Fr. Olofson said. “I was a bit surprised when he told me (as SJV has not had a vice rector in 25 years) but I take great comfort in the fact that while I was surprised, Jesus was not surprised! I love this seminary, and I look forward to continuing to serve the community here in this new role.”
